A kitchen app for our family

Koshiams Kitchen

Our recipes, the week's meal plan, and the shopping list, in one place my wife and I both use.

Koshiams Kitchen's recipe list, with search and filters by meal and cuisine

Why I built it

We kept our recipes in Plan to Eat, a paid subscription app. When I started moving my life onto tools I own, this was the first app I built. Every recipe came over from Plan to Eat, photos included.

The cooking view: one step at a time in large type, with the ingredients that step uses

Cooking

Read it, then cook it

A recipe opens in full first, so I can read it through and spot anything tricky before I start. Then Start cooking walks through it one step at a time, in big type, with the ingredients each step uses and a timer on any step that has a time in it.

The week's meal plan: a dinner on each day, with servings to adjust

The week

A plan for the week

Each day gets its dinner, and the servings scale the recipe. Leftovers count as a meal without adding anything to buy.

The shopping list, grouped by section, with the recipe each item is for

The list

A shopping list that fills itself

The next seven days of meals go onto one shared list by themselves, added up across recipes and grouped by section, with the recipe each item is for. Any item can be tied to a store. The staples we always need are one tap away, and anything ticked off leaves the list with an Undo.

Recipes from anywhere

I can hand it a recipe at a time from a web page, a photo, or my own words, and it is saved straight into the kitchen with no typing.

How it was made

The same way as Resist. I wrote down what we needed, an AI agent wrote the code, and we tested it where it matters, in our own kitchen and at the store.

If you want systems like this built around the way you actually work, that is the work I do. And if you have an idea that should become a product for other people, I can help you build that too.
